Rules

  • Informal club competitions are held each month at our regular meetings. The season runs from July to May with a winner declared at the conclusion of the season.
  • Points are awarded based on popular vote with 5 points going to first place, 3 points going to second place, and all other entries receiving 1 point.
  • Additionally, 1 bonus point will be given for the most innovative or ambitious entry as decided by the competition maestro. 1 bonus point will also be given for the best beer as decided on by the club's panel of BJCP judges.
  • Some competitions are marked as Collaboration contests. Entrants must brew this beer with another member (or group) and submit together. Both members/teams will receive any points awarded.
  • Entrants must supply six 12 oz. bottles, one 64 oz. growler, or similar quantity.
  • Limit one entry per person per month.

Schedule

July - English Beers
Any and all English-style beers are accepted.

August - Challenge Ingredient: Amoretti flavorings
Use an Amoretti product in your beer. Samples were provided at our April meeting, but feel free to use your own.

September - "The Pounder"
It's back! Our famous challenge which asked competitors to use a whole pound of hops in one 5-gallon batch. Our taste buds still hurt from Kevin's attempt in 2014.

October - Wrong Color Beers
Black IPA, Pale Stout, and Golden Mild finally have a home. Bring your intentionally odd-colored beers for tasting this month.

November - Same Recipe Challenge
The challenge is simple: everyone will have the same recipe to work off of, and we'll see who brewed it best. Stay tuned for the chosen recipe in extract and all-grain form.

December - Big, Bigger, Biggest - *COLLABORATION*
It's anti-session beers here, as nothing can be below 9%. As an added wrinkle, we want the high octane to come from the base beer - no wood/barrel aging permitted.

January - Porters
English, American, Pre-Prohibition, or any other type of Porter you can come up with are all on the table this month.

February - Copycat
A fun new challenge for this month - brew the signature recipe from another one of your clubmates. We'll be asking for everyone's house recipe in the month's leading up to this competition, and all will be available for selection. No problem if multiple people choose the same one.

March - Cider
We move away from beer for a month and let the cidermakers show off their craft. Perfect opportunity to try your first one if you haven't done one before!

April - Ingredient Draft - *COLLABORATION*
You know it, you love it - our annual ingredient draft. Select a roster of ingredients, fantasy sports-style, and concoct your creation using ONLY what you've selected. Grab a partner, and don't miss this one!

May - Lagers
We end the season with a chance to really show off your brewing process. Lager is beer in it's purest form, so show off your fantastic fermentations with a crisp, clean quaff!
