Keystone Barrel Brew Championship Recap

Posted on: Mon August 11 - 9:08 PM
On July 19, twelve local homebrew clubs including our very own Keystone Hops joined together to produce an amount of beer that would eclipse that of a brewpub-size batch. Each club was given a 55 gallon wine barrel to age or ferment the recipe of their choosing. The beers will age for approximately one year and will be judged next summer.

This year, the Keystone Hops elected to undertake a barrel-aged sour beer. 48 gallons of a golden wort were produced on our new club-owned system and racked into the barrel along with a pitch of Belgian yeast and a starter grown up from dregs of a dozen commercial sour beers. Barrel samplings will likely occur at club meetings throughout the coming year, so don't miss your chance to try it!
