Keystone Hops Win 2014 Keystone Cup

The Keystone Hops are 2014 Keystone Cup champions. The award, given to the club with the best combined showing at War of the Worts and Malt Madness, is in the hands of the Montgomeryville club for the third time since first being awarded in 2008.

To win, the club needed to hold off an impressive Malt Madness showing from defending champions, the Stoney Creek Homebrewers. Moments were tense as it was announced that Stoney Creek had taken first overall Best of Show. But when Matt King took home second Best of Show with his American IPA, it proved enough to clinch the competition for Keystone Hops.

In addition to Matt's Second Best of Show, the club took home an admirable 11 category medals at Malt Madness, hosted by the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers.

Steve Shantz
  • Gold for a Saison
  • Bronze for a English Mild

Tim Caum
  • Silver for a Schwartzbier
  • Silver for a Baltic Porter

Andy Hejl
  • Silver for a Northern English Brown
  • Bronze for an Oatmeal Stout

Nate Panek
  • Bronze for an American IPA
  • Bronze for a Belgian Specialty

Matt King
  • Gold for American IPA

Brian Krebs
  • Silver for a Saison

Jesse Kuiper
  • Silver for a Fruit Cider

It's worth noting that in 2014, Matt has entered an IPA in War of the Worts, BUZZ Off, and Malt Madness, and has won Gold, Silver, and Gold in the category. If that's not dominance, I'm not sure what is.

Congrats to all the winners, and be sure to start thinking about the 2015 competition kicking off with our very own War of the Worts on February 21. Full Keystone Cup details can be found on Keystone Homebrew's website.
